Equipping: Microphones & Cables
Microphones are an important part of equipping a music technology lab. Entire courses could and have been created on microphone design and uses. This list only scratches the surface of all there is to consider and is only meant to be a starting point. Intended use and budgetary restraints will certainly play a big part in any purchasing decisions. USB microphones are great for use in the music tech lab because all you really have to do is plug them into the computer. Many affordable options are great for classroom use and are design primarily for podcasting or simple voice recordings. If you are planning on getting into studio level recording of instruments and vocals, you will need to plan to invest in higher quality XLR (analog) microphones with USB audio interfaces for your workstations.
