TeachRock

Stevie Van Zandt’s TeachRock project brings rich educational materials to teachers and students everywhere – at no cost. The lesson plans and resources at teachrock.org allow a one-of-a-kind, multimedia experience that helps young people connect the history of popular music to classroom work across the disciplines. From social studies and language arts to geography, media studies, science, general music, and more: TeachRock has engaging and meaningful material for every classroom.

Makey Makey is an invention kit for the 21st century. Turn everyday objects into touchpads and combine them with the internet. It's a simple Invention Kit for Beginners and Experts doing music, art, engineering, and everything in between. 

Music-Map

An algorithm based search engine. Type in the name of any music artist and the site will generate a graphic list of other artists who are similar in genre and style.  The closer the other artists to the original artist, the more closely related they are.

Smithsonian for Educators

Browse lesson plans by subject area or search by grade levels and keywords. Smithsonian lesson plans emphasize inquiry-based learning using primary sources and museum collections. Each plan is print-friendly and provides you with all the materials you need—photographs, reproductions, handouts, activities, suggested strategies, standards information, and additional online resources.

The NYU Music Experience Design Lab (MusEDLab) researches and designs new technologies and experiences for music making learning and engagement together with students, educators, non-profit, and industry partners. We focus on lowering barriers to and promoting creative expressions of all people across the lifespan. 

Sounds of the Globe Project

The ‘Sounds of the Globe’ project is a global initiative for learners in G4-12 to explore, create and share musical ideas with a diverse range of audiences using technology as a tool for artistic expression. The project is designed to have two phases with an optional third phase. During the first phase, learners are encouraged to explore the sounds of their own cities, then record and share them via cloud-based platforms such as soundcloud.com. In the second phase, learners will have the opportunity to listen to and work with sound samples submitted from other places of the world, and create a composition focusing on musical context, form/structure, timbre, and texture. Lastly, participating classrooms will have the option to connect via the internet share the creative process and story behind their compositions.
